11/9 Optional Meditative Drawing Assignment
Automatic Drawing: to draw with no plan, no purpose, no conscious control, to begin generating line and mark in a seemingly random fashion. This type of drawing is associated with the early Modernist Movement Surrealism. Pioneer surrealist artists like Joan Miro, Andre Masson and Jean Arp engaged in a lot of automatic drawing.
Check out the work of artist Dan Huston. He works with predominantly color pencils and acrylic paint. Materials: Color pencils and paper, and some good music to listen to while you draw. Steps for a successful Automatic Drawing: 1. Don’t have a destination in mind. 2. Draw as long as you can without stopping. 3. Experiment with various ways to make marks. |

3. Which letters do type designers start designing a typeface with?
4. Who designed Helvetica? Give details regarding name, designers and origins.
5. How does a typeface create a mood, feeling or image? Can you describe an occasion when you had a particular reaction to something in print, not because of the content, but because of the typeface?
