SAS Visual Art Learning Outcomes
LO1 Experimentation & Iteration – I experiment with multiple visual possibilities using various media to generate formal, technical and conceptual solutions. I create multiple versions of ideas and designs over time based on research, critique, and experimentation.
LO2 Developing craft / Technical skills – I demonstrate the development of craft and technical skills with a variety of media and tools. My completed studio work displays attention to detail and care in construction as well as a sensitivity to the art media I’ve chosen to use.
LO3 Communicate & Respond – I can think, speak and write critically about works of art using art specific language, analyzing thematic, formal and contextual aspects and how they are integrated to construct meaning and purpose. I contribute in class critique, offering constructive and specific feedback to peers and can articulate my ideas and intentions behind my own artwork.
LO4 Documentation / Portfolio / Exhibition – I keep a detailed record of my creative process, documenting both process and finished work(s) and understand how to exhibit my work to an audience. My resolved artworks and artist statements are documented on my online portfolio. My body of artwork demonstrates the effective use and application of different media and coherence between theme, concept and imagery.
LO5 Inquiry & Research- I develop a theme-based route of investigation and construct driving questions from which my artwork stems. I seek outside references in the art world and beyond. I use research to inform and further the development of my own studio work and make connections between art and different conceptual, cultural and historical contexts.
LO6 Artistic Growth /Accountability- I consistently demonstrate initiative, personal responsibility and a commitment to learning and growing as an artist. I can reflect on my learning and progress, as well as manage my time effectively both in and outside of class. I demonstrate a commitment to further my growth as an artist in my performance in class and portfolio of work.

Make your page BEAUTIFUL to you! Answer these questions in any way on the first page of your sketchbook. Date your page.
What are your goals for yourself in this class?
What are your goals as an artist?
As an artist, what type of work are you hoping to create?
What media/art forms (see chart below) do you want to continue working with and elevating/pushing your technical skills in this media/art form?
What media/art forms do you have little experience in but high interest in learning more about and trying out in a project this coming semester?
What initial ideas do you have about any of your projects?
What causes/issues in the world do you care about deeply? I'd like you to write these down as they may fuel some of the work you end up creating.
What themes/ideas are you quite interested in? ART 21 THEMES
Did you explore any specific themes or ideas in your work last year? How might your work continue in that vein?
Are there any artists (dead or alive) who come to mind as artists you admire in terms of their artwork (innovation, style, ideas, media)? Who do you aspire to make work similar to?
