Unit 3 -Free Choice STUDIO PROJECT
How should I begin?
This unit is your "choose your own theme" unit. Feel free to browse the other unit pages in SAS art if having more guidance is helpful for you. You may use any of the unit pages available.
If you have done 2 completed Process Portfolios for Unit 1 and Unit 2, then Unit 3 is a mini Process Portfolio.
If you decided on a mini Process Portfolio for unit 2, then you will need to do a complete Process Portfolio for Unit 3.
Mini Process Portfolio:
3 Slides including these 4 steps:
-initial ideas OR developing ideas (only if you are working on an idea you already recorded in your sketchbook)
-FTC on an artist who will inspire your work
-media testing in the media/medium you plan to use
-Composition Planning (at least 3) OR Final Plan
In your sketchbook, respond to the questions below as part of your 'Initial Ideas'. Look at your 2 studio artworks you have already created so far this semester.
1. How are these 2 artworks connected?
2. What ideas/themes/media/stylistic approaches have I been using in these 2 artworks and are there any similarities?
3. What story do these 2 projects say about my values or touch upon what I want to say/express?
4. How could a 3rd artwork help support the 2 artworks you have thus far? How could you make sure these 3 pieces of work are like a functioning family of sorts, that each artwork informs the next?
5. Spending time reflecting on the questions above, what initial ideas do you have for Project 3? Do you have media/a medium you are dying to work with? Have you shown technical skill in your works thus far? Has the imagery/subject matter of your work aligned with your intention/message of the work?
How could you elevate where you are as an artist with this 3rd work to round out your body of work?
Perhaps you don't have initial ideas yet, because you need to spend some time browsing and getting some inspiration.
Inspiration can be visual but it can also be from something you saw, something you read about, something you heard...
